Promote Yourself: Get Great Business Cards

Whenever I meet someone for the first time, I ask them for a business card.  It’s the fastest way to get someone’s contact information and still continue with your conversation.  However, I have run into a number of people – especially performers – who don’t have a business card.  What do you do when you’re an independent contractor and someone asks for YOUR business card?  The answer….always have a business card with at least the most basic information on it.  You never know who you will meet or where and it pays to be prepared.

I have heard lots of excuses about why people don’t have a business card.  “Well, I’m not a full-time musician/actor/painter/etc…, so I don’t really feel I should have a business card.”  I say, Hooey!  Everyone is entitled to a business card and it’s never been easier to make one or have one made.  Consider your business card as a kind of extention of your personality, along with what you’re trying to promote.  Are you a serious, classical musician looking for work?  Are you an outgoing comedian aching for that big break?  Let your business cards authentically represent who you are and what you’re about.

Don’t worry if you’re not overly creative and can’t design your own card.  There are sites out there (including the ones listed below) that will take the guesswork out of designing and producing your business cards.  Quantities are also no longer an issue.  You can have as few as 100 cards made for $10, including shipping.  It’s a worthwhile investment in your most important product – YOU!

Some examples, from basic to flashy – all are affordable and produced with an online company:

123Print - This is one of the most basic development sites with prices starting at $3.95 for 100 cards.  For a full price listing, click HERE

OvernightPrints - This site requires a bit more knowledge than the average beginner might have at their disposal although it is not complicated to learn.  It offers business card design/production with prices starting at $9.95 for 100 cards.  For a full price listing, click HERE

Vista Print - This is a full service site for both the beginner and the more savvy entrepreneur, offering business cards with prices starting at $14.99 for 250 cards.  For a full price listing, click HERE.  If you are looking for an overall package with a “brand,” you might want to look at Vista Print’s web development package that can be added to your business card packages.
